Do you live on an "excluded road"? - if so - Protest !
1 The "excluded roads" make nonsense of the idea that these are two 20mph zones. There are actually 23 zones separated by the "excluded roads". As well as A roads, numerous B roads and unclassified roads are excluded, including:
East zone (Easton / Lawrence Hill) : Ashley Rd, Ashley Hill, James St, Mina Rd, Cambridge St, Stapleton Rd, Penneywell Rd, Easton Rd, Whitehall Rd, Chalk Rd, Midland rd, Kingsland Lane.
South zone (Southville/ Bedminster): Ashton Rd, Back Rd, North st, Dean Lane, York rd, Clarence rd, Sheene La, Duckmore rd, Luckwell rd, Malago Rd
2 The only excluded roads that are not residential or shopping streets are Newfoundland Way (M32 ext), Easton Way, Barrow Rd/St Phillips Causeway. These are about the only major roads that are legitimate exclusions.
3 Numerous zone entry signs will be needed on all the excluded roads and at the boundaries
Some of the boundaries of the two zones follow sensible edges at parks, railways and motorway, but they also intersect numerous small streets eg at Redfield , Bedminster (St Johns Lane) and Winterstoke Rd.
4 Some excluded locations either put cyclists at risk unless they can accelerate to 30mph or use extremely inconvenient or dangerous "farcilities" , and continue to force pedestrians to use underpasses , eg gyratories Easton/M32, Lawrence Hill, Redciffe Way/Temple Way.
5 Roads that mark the boundary but are outside it are Cheltenham Rd, Bond Street, Redcliffe Way, Bath Rd, Brunel Way, Coronation Rd, Winterstoke Rd, Bedminster rd, St Johns La, Blackswarth Rd, Fishponds Rd.
6 Studying the proposed zones brings home that the most efficient action on grounds of both cost and effectiveness would be to act on the whole of Bristol/urban S Glos in one sweep.
